In the space of 12 years, Nigeria has seen
43,000 Christians killed by terrorists and 17,500 churches attacked.
Nigeria’s faithful need our prayers and support urgently.
ACN’s Caroline Hull’s first-hand account of her experience in Nigeria.
“Over the past decade I have visited ACN projects in some very challenging places. Each has left its mark on me, but the internally displaced people camps on the outskirts of Makurdi will remain in my prayers for a long time to come”
– Dr. Caroline Hull, National Director of ACN UK
1 - Catholics make up 12.5% of the population with 34% from other Christian denominations. In any given year, the number of Christians killed by extremist groups is rarely less than 4,000.
2 – In the past five years militant Fulani herdsmen have killed members of the Middle Belt’s farming community, attacking Christian villages, seizing land, and displacing vast numbers of innocent people.
3 - Boko Haram has now sworn loyalty to Daesh (ISIS) re-branding itself Islamic State: West Africa Province (ISWAP). It seeks the eradication of Christianity from the northern states.
4 - In the space of 12 years, Nigeria has seen 43,000 Christians killed by terrorists, 17,500 churches attacked, 2,000 Christian schools destroyed, and the chaos has led to 4 million displaced people.

Stories from Christian communities in Nigeria
“We cannot do this alone.”
Despite persecution, Nigeria’s huge number of vocations shows the strength of their faith. Brave, young men tell us that they pray every single day for ACN, our benefactors and our work to help the suffering church.
Your compassion and generosity support many Nigerian seminarians like Igbautongo Moses Imoter, in his third year, on their journey to ordination by covering tuition fees and living expenses, refurbishing and building libraries, hostels and classrooms, books and other study materials.
The messages from more than 250 seminarians at St Augustine’s major Seminary in Jo is that your prayers and support mean everything to them.
“I didn’t have a future”
There are thousands of IDPs forced to live in camps in Benue State, many of whom are children and young people, that know little of happy, family home where all they should have to worry about is learning and playing.
Bishop Wilfred Anagbe of Makurdi decided to do all he can for these people and came to ACN to ask for help with tuition fees for young people unable to attend school because of the economic hardships.
One such young person is Alex, a pupil at Mount Carmel College for Girls in Makurdi that did not see a future, until she was awarded an ACN-funded scholarship.
Now she is working hard for that future and says she will forever be thankful to the benefactors of ACN for giving her hope and opportunity.
“ACN’s Footsteps are all over this Diocese!”
Jihadists attacked Pulka in Borno State, a once prosperous town large Catholic population, in August 2013, forcing around 90,000 people to flee, many crossed the border into Cameroon.
Since 2019 roughly half who fled have returned to Pulka, but many remain unable to access their churches, homes and businesses because the town centre remains too dangerous, living in IDPs on the outskirts of Pulka.
ACN benefactors have helped to build a large open-air chapel to continue to worship under cover from Nigeria’s scorching sun and torrential downpours. It is thanks to benefactors like you that they have access to clean water in IDPs and their children can continue their education.
These are just some of the lives that have been impacted by the kind and generous contributions of ACN benefactors have but there is still many more that need your help. Any contribution you make today will support projects like these in Nigeria and change the lives of those in need. Thank you
