Born in Penzance, Harold Harvey (1874-1941), was a Newlyn School painter who depicted working class Cornish life and Cornish landscapes. Here he shows the Holy Family in the real present. The Christ Child blesses us from the harbour wall. The hills of Penwith are the backdrop with the Cross as a signpost. The Lamb and Flag is the local and the Agnus was the secret sign of Catholics in the time of persecution. In memoriam and with kind permission of the Estate of Rachel John, Catholic Historian, Cornish Bard. Photographed by Paul Mounsey.
