Train Catechists in Nigeria
The work of lay catechists is especially vital in places like Burkina Faso and parts of Nigeria where Christian communities live in constant fear of attacks by Islamist extremists. In these regions priests can be scarce, so the faithful often rely on catechists for pastoral care.
In Burkina Faso, catechist Mathieu was abducted and held hostage for four months by terrorists who tried to force him to convert to Islam. Mathieu said about his time in captivity: “I never stopped praying. I remember one night that I prayed seven hundred Hail Marys.” Following his release, he resumed his work, never ceasing to share the Gospel with his community.
With your support, we can help brave individuals like Mathieu bring Christ’s saving love to those who need it most.
Message inside the card: I have given a Christmas Gift of Faith to Aid to the Church in Need on your behalf, to support the work of catechists in sharing God’s Word with their communities so they can grow in faith.
