Sunday Mass in the Parish Sant Jean de Toudbweogo, Burkina Faso
Mathieu's strength, courage and hope

“Prayer was the only thing that sustained me.”

On Pentecost Sunday, catechist Mathieu was abducted by jihadists who tried to force him to convert to Islam. For four months, he was held captive, praying 700 Hail Marys one night using pebbles to count. When he returned to his burnt home, he found the Bible his bishop had given him. Despite the trauma, Mathieu continues to serve his community, risking his life to preach the Word of God.”
