For four months, he was held captive, praying 700 Hail Marys one night using pebbles to count. When he returned to his burnt home, he found the Bible his bishop had given him. Despite the trauma, Mathieu continues to serve his community, risking his life to preach the Word of God.”

Burkina Faso is in crisis. Over 2 million people have been displaced, and 40% of the country is controlled by violent extremist groups. Christians are being targeted, churches desecrated, and families forced to flee.
Aid to the Church in Need is responding with over 50 projects — from trauma counselling and emergency aid to training seminarians and supporting Sisters

- Provide training and support for catechists that are ministering Christians communities under extremist threat.
- Sisters receiving theological training and practical skills needed to help in their ministering as they work tirelessly to bring help and hope to the persecuted.
- Ensuring access to studying in psychology degrees and other qualifications dealing with victims afflicted with trauma.
- Building of safe community centers that allow priests and Sisters to care for people that have been displaced by violence.
