Religious Persecution: Lesson 1

Religious Freedom Core RE

This engaging six-lesson Core RE course examines religious persecution through the lens of real-world case studies. The experiences of Christians in Nigeria, Uyghur Muslims in China, and vulnerable women and girls facing abduction and forced marriage in Egypt and Pakistan are juxtaposed with the ideals contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with a particular focus on Article 18.

The course also demonstrates how ACN responds to injustice and supports persecuted communities. Alongside developing knowledge, students will reflect on key themes such as forgiveness, courage, and the responsibility to speak out against injustice.

Packed with interactive activities, video content, group work, and discussion opportunities, these lessons are designed to actively engage pupils and encourage critical thinking. Flexible lesson structures, including opportunities for independent research and collaborative tasks, allow teachers to tailor the content for their learners.

The course aims to deepen students’ understanding of global issues, inspire empathy, and motivate them to respond.
