In this year of hope as proclaimed by Pope Francis, the war in the Holy Land has claimed thousands of lives, with the conflict which has now spilled over with 1.3 million people displaced in Lebanon.
Meanwhile in Syria, 6.2 million people internally displaced. Widespread poverty has led the people to become dependent on humanitarian aid for their survival.

ACN Projects in Syria and Lebanon
Art Therapy for children with trauma
Within just three weeks at the height of the conflict the UN reported more than 400,000 children displaced in Lebanon. In response to the trauma suffered by these children, the Basilian Choueirite Sisters have asked for ACN to support their initiative to establish a program for arts and crafts as a tool for traumatised children with problems such as hearing impairment or leaning difficulties.
Support for suffering elderly people
With many elderly people in Syria too frail to join their families, others too poor to pay, it is thanks to your support that they are able to receive life-saving medicine. ACN has teamed up with Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary to provide for their health needs. With your support, the Sisters are providing ACN-funded medicines to elderly people in 13 towns and villages outside the coastal city of Tartus.
Emergency aid for displaced people
One in four people in Lebanon were displaced from their homes in the two months after airstrikes began targeting Hezbollah strongholds last September. ACN rushed to the help of the many Christian families who were either forced to flee their homes themselves or chose to open their doors to welcome those displaced from other parts of the country. ACN has also supported dioceses and religious congregations providing shelter and other assistance to those in great need.
