Painter, sculpture, ceramist and printmaker, Elizabeth Duncan Meyer’s work is informed by the Expressionist and Cubist movements where colour and texture is dominant throughout. She normally works from life, imagination, sketches and photos tending to plan out compositions and make maquettes for stone and wood sculptures.
Elizabeth was born in London during World War 2, she moved to the US with her mother during the Blitz. The family moved back to London in the 1950s. At the age of 13 and heavily influenced by her art teacher Elizabeth realised she had a passion for painting. After leaving school Elizabeth studied sculpture and drawing in Florence after which she enrolled at Central School of Art to study theatre design.
During her marriage she continued to paint and draw and after having her children the whole family moved to Paris where she continued to study at the Beaux Arts, specialising in printmaking. While living in Paris she also worked in the William Hayter Print Studio.
In 1989 she moved back to London and immersed herself in the art scene, working from The London Print Studio and Chelsea and Kensington College where she makes most of her sculpture.
She continues to teach on a part-time basis and exhibits regularly with the National Society of painters, printmakers and sculptors.
